PLAN YOUR STAY
Getting There
Reaching the Steinfeldalm is already part of the alpine experience.
You can arrive comfortably by train to Kirchberg in Tirol and continue the last stretch by taxi which can be arranged at an additional cost.
If you prefer to drive, you can follow the road all the way to the hut depending on your vehicle and mountain-driving confidence.
The final kilometers lead across gravel roads, so a little driving experience and a suitable car (SUV or 4WD recommended) make the journey smoother. Sedans are not ideal for the upper part of the ascent.
If you wish, we’re happy to accompany you on the final stretch—to guide you and help you settle in calmly.
The meeting point is Mautstelle Aschau.
The Steinfeldalm is open from June to the end of September, when meadows are green, the trails are clear, and traditional alpine farming thrives.
A minimum stay of 4 nights (usually Thursday–Sunday) gives you enough time to sink into mountain rhythm.
During mild autumn weeks, short stays in October may be available on short notice.
Every season has its own charm—sunlit pastures in summer, quiet golden slopes in early autumn, and crisp evenings perfect for star-filled skies.
Best Time to Visit
What to Expect
Life on the Steinfeldalm moves at a different pace.
There is no internet, and mobile reception is limited—creating the perfect space to slow down, reconnect, and breathe deeply.
Listen to cowbells echoing through the valley, watch clouds drift across the peaks, and savour the scent of pine, alpine herbs, and fresh mountain air.
For adventure lovers, the hike to the Großer Rettenstein is unforgettable, and many beautiful trails begin right at the doorstep.
When the weather turns, the spacious indoor areas invite you to settle in—
• play games
• roll out a yoga mat
• read, paint, write
• or simply enjoy the warmth of the wood stove
The Steinfeldalm is equally suited for families, friends, small groups, workshops, and retreats.
Remember, you are in the high mountains—weather changes quickly and nights can be chilly even in summer.
We recommend bringing:
Sturdy hiking boots
Warm layers
Weatherproof jacket
Comfortable clothing for relaxing or yoga
Any personal supplies you prefer for outdoor activities
Most essentials are provided in the hut, so you only need what keeps you comfortable and ready for adventure.
